Fiction Thai is easy to read and offers a fast pace. Unlike most textbooks that tend to be dry and boring, the story is full of action, adventure, romance, humor and adventure. The story starts off as a young woman returns home from university only to find her family’s cooking has been stolen by a retired warlord. Forced to take on the task of cooking for the rich and powerful warlord, Le Thai soon finds herself in the center of intrigue, thievery and betrayal. Once she accepts the job, her life quickly becomes a nightmare as she struggles to keep her new life under control while also keeping tabs on her warlord brother.
Another reason why you should add Fiction Thai to your reading list is because it offers a unique take on Thai History and Culture. Although the main story is based on Thai History, it does tend to be a lighthearted take on events. It is interesting to follow the gradual progress of the characters from childhood to adulthood. You get to see how their actions affect their friends, love ones and even future relationships. This makes the story not only a romantic comedy but also a moving story of friendship and family.
The writing style is clear and there are no grammatical errors. This is especially helpful for beginners. One of the best features of Fiction Thai is that the author makes writing fun and not boring and tedious. The characters are very expressive and often hilarious. There are even times when you will find yourself chuckling or making some faces at the characters.
The story takes place in modern day Thailand, which is also known as Bangkok, Thailand. The city is full of life, both musical and live action. Action surrounds the characters as well. You will witness an uprising against an evil King and his oppressive iron hands. An agent is sent to Bangkok to investigate the story and save the Thai people from the impending threat.
The story kicks off by chronicling the beginning of Bangkok’s independence from the British. Thailand had been ruled over by the House of Siam before coming under the British Empire. This period of history is depicted through various short stories, poems and novels. Throughout these stories the reader comes to know the heritage, culture and history of the people living in this glorious country. The voice of the author provides the perfect bridge between reality and fiction.
The first novel in the series was “The Royal Guards”. It is set in 1827 during the reign of King Rama V. The second novel in the series is “Sailor’s Love”. The third book in the series is “The Stone Bazaar”. In the fourth novel “The Sands of Time” the story jumps to post-war Thailand. The penultimate book in the series is “The Sands of Time”. The entire series has so far eleven books, all of which are beautifully written and have great story lines.
The main theme of each novel is about a clash of civilizations, historical battles, romance, and secrets. In most of the series the main character is either a princess or a retired soldier. The world building is excellent, bringing a realistic setting for Thailand. The best thing is that all the books in the series are excellent works of fiction.
